On Second Thought: Education and Democracy - Possibilities and Limitations

A panel discussion on education and democracy was held at the Mandel Leadership Institute on Tuesday, January 31, 2012.

Our guests, Professor Deborah Ball and Professor David Cohen, world renowned researchers of education, discussed the relationship between democracy and education from a new prospective. Together they teach the  "Social Foundations of Education" at the University of Michigan. They were joined by Prof. Mordechai Kremnitzer, who presented the Jewish-national context of the topic, and Mandel Leadership Institute Faculty member Dr. Ayman Agbaria, who presented the subject within the context of the contemporary Arab world.

Prof. Ball is a well-known expert on teaching, learning and teacher training and serves as Dean of the School of Education at the University of Michigan.

Prof. Cohen is a renowned expert on educational policy.

Prof. Kremnitzer is the Vice President of Research at the Israel Democracy Institute and previously served as the President of the Israeli Press Council.

Dr. Agbaria is a lecturer on leadership and policy in education in the Faculty of Education at the University of Haifa.
